Essential Information

Several community colleges and universities in Connecticut offer marketing programs at the associate, bachelor's and master's degree levels. Some schools also offer certificates and degree program minors. Marketing may be the main area of study or it may be offered as a concentration within a larger business administration program. Some colleges also offer related sales programs within their marketing department.

Students learn about such topics as consumer behavior, marketing research, strategic marketing, sales and global marketing. In addition, participants may be able to gain hands-on experience by participating in an internship or a practicum. The marketing schools mentioned below are the largest non-profit or public schools in the state.


Central Connecticut State University

Found in New Britain, this university offers a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in marketing. Students will receive a foundation in marketing practices, and they will be prepared for entry-level jobs. Courses in the program include consumer behavior, marketing research and marketing electives. The university has a tutoring lab and an honors society for business students.

Fairfield University

Fairfield University has the following programs in marketing: a minor, a major, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). The marketing major program has additional concentrations in relationship marketing and integrated marketing communications. Applicants to the MBA program must have a bachelor's degree. Students may take courses like consumer behavior, marketing research and global marketing.

Manchester Community College

Manchester Community College offers an associate's degree in marketing for students who are proficient in math. Students will take courses like financial accounting, legal business, marketing and advertising. A certificate program is also available for students who already have a degree and want a career change. The program can be full-time or part-time, and students may take courses like marketing, sales and managerial communications.

Naugatuck Valley Community College

Located in Waterbury, this community college offers an associate's degree in marketing for those who want to find entry-level work or transfer to a four-year degree program. Students take courses in general education, business law, consumer behavior, marketing and computer applications. A certificate in marketing electronic commerce is also available. Students will take fifteen credit hours, and they will learn about sales, internet marketing, marketing and consumer behavior.

Sacred Heart University

Sacred Heart University is located in Fairfield, and the school offers a bachelor's degree in marketing with concentrations in digital advertising, fashion marketing/merchandising and sport marketing. Students will take courses in market research, international marketing, marketing management and marketing electives. A graduate certificate in marketing is available to students who already have a bachelor's degree. Grad students will take thirty-six hours of courses like marketing management and marketing research. The university also has resources like the student marketing club, extracurricular learning opportunities and internships.

Three Rivers Community College

Located in Norwich, this college offers an associate's degree in marketing. The marketing/transfer degree program is best suited for students who eventually want to get a bachelor's degree, and students will take courses like accounting, marketing, advertising and finance.

University of Bridgeport

The University of Bridgeport offers a bachelor's degree in marketing. Undergrad students will be required to take courses in marketing and participate in a senior project or internship. The university also offers a marketing MBA program, and students may take courses like customer analysis, advanced marketing concepts, global market management and more. MBA students must also complete either an internship or thesis project. Graduate students have the opportunity to receive scholarships and awards for academic excellence.

University of Connecticut

The University of Connecticut is located in Storrs, and it offers the following programs: minor in sales, major in marketing, certificate in sales, MBA with concentration in digital marketing strategy, and PhD in Marketing. Students in the major will take courses in consumer behavior, marketing research and professional selling. MBA students may take courses like customer relationship marketing and marketing travel abroad. PhD applicants need to take prerequisites in calculus, probability, statistics and economics. They are required to complete marketing seminars, courses in research methods and dissertation research.

University of New Haven

Found in West Haven, this university has minor programs in marketing and professional sales, an undergrad major program in marketing, a certificate program in marketing and a graduate program in marketing. Students in the bachelor's degree program will take courses like organizational marketing, advertising/promotion and international marketing. Applicants to the MBA program need to have a bachelor's degree and GMAT/GRE scores. Students will take courses in international marketing, marketing research and a capstone class.

Western Connecticut State University

This university is located in Danbury, and it offers minor and major programs in marketing. The bachelor's degree program has specializations in general marketing and interactive marketing.
