Master of Science in Counseling - Marital and Family Therapy Emphasis

This program gives students the choice to complete their studies online or at the campus; students can even opt for a blended approach. The program can be completed in about three years of study, which allows students to maintain full-time employment while enrolled in the program. Students are required to complete 60 credit hours of graduate coursework, which includes courses in human development, marital/family treatment methods, and psychotherapy techniques. The curriculum includes a therapy practicum or internship as well.

Southern Nazarene University

Courses include lifespan development, counseling techniques, psychopathology, marital and family systems, marriage and family therapy, multicultural treatment planning, and interpersonal relationship philosophy. Students must also complete 450 hours of internship work in a professional setting. This program provides the training necessary to ensure that graduates fulfill Oklahoma's licensure requirements for marriage and family therapists. Oklahoma Baptist University

Oklahoma Baptist University is located in Shawnee. Students can pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology with a focus on pre-counseling. Bachelor of Arts in Psychology: Pre-Counseling

Students who are interested in continuing their education at another university and becoming a licensed counselor or therapist may take interest in this program. They would take courses that prepare them for graduate school in various counseling specialties, such as basic counseling, experimental psychology, abnormal psychology, marriage, family, and sexuality.
