While there are more than 200 colleges and universities in California that offer programs in business administration, there are around 30 public or private not-for-profit colleges and universities that offer Master of Business Administration (MBA) programs in Southern California. Specializations are available in such areas as accounting, entrepreneurship and management. Additionally, students can pursue a dual degree program, which could combine an MBA with a Juris Doctor or a master's degree in another area, such as finance, real estate or marketing.

MBA programs do not require a bachelor's degree in business administration for admission; however, some program requirements differ for those who do have a bachelor's degree in business administration. California Baptist University

Students at Riverside's California Baptist University who want an advanced degree in business administration can earn an MBA with a concentration in management. For this degree, individuals study management techniques, economics, financial management and decision-making. They also complete a culminating project. Management concentration courses include ethics, marketing in the digital age and entrepreneurship. Students must have a bachelor's degree in order to apply to the MBA program; other admission requirements include an application, an essay, reference letters and an interview.

California State University - Long Beach

In Long Beach, students have several options when it comes to earning their MBAs. They can choose from the self-paced evening MBA, the Saturday MBA or the 1-year daytime accelerated MBA (AMBA), each of which has its own scheduling format and requirements. Required courses in the evening MBA program include management of information systems, marketing policies, cost accounting, budgeting and control. Students in the evening MBA program can choose from a variety of specializations, including marketing, management, finance, accountancy and healthcare. Individuals can complete the Saturday MBA in 23 months. Students in the Saturday program meet weekly and attend a one-week international experience in the second year of the program. The AMBA program can be completed in as little as one year and meets Mondays through Thursdays; students complete an international experience between their fourth and fifth quarters.

California State University - San Marcos

San Marcos' campus of California State University offers a 19-month Master of Business Administration program that allows students to meet with business leaders while attending a variety of workshops on topics like business calculus, writing for business, global negotiations and ethics. Required courses include organizational behavior and human resources management, financial accounting, strategic management in the global environment and information technologies and management. Students are also required to complete a master's project in which they create a potential solution to an organizational issue and evaluate the overall effect of their solution on the organization.

Chapman University

Orange-based Chapman University offers a Master of Business Administration program with many delivery options. Students can choose a program with a flexible course schedule, an executive-style program, a daytime program, an international program or a program in Prague; the university also offers dual programs leading to an MBA/Master of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production, a Juris Doctor/MBA or an MBA/Master of Science in Food Science. Undergraduates in any major who know they want to later earn an MBA can enroll in an integrated 5-year undergraduate/Master of Business Administration program. Each program option has its own requirements, but common courses include strategies for competitive advantage, economic analysis, accounting and financial analysis, financial management and business statistics. Other course topics include management of operations and technology, marketing management and study of the global business environment. All students must complete a capstone course in strategic management in which they use case studies to create options for companies to retain competitive advantage.

San Diego State University

Students at San Diego State University in San Diego can earn a Master of Business Administration with a variety of optional specializations, an MBA in Sports Business Management or an Executive MBA. The Executive MBA program meets for two days every other week for 21 months. In the MBA in Sports Business Management program, students spend six months consulting with a sports organization and complete courses like sports economics, sports marketing, statistical analysis for sports and business analytics for sports. Students in the general MBA program can choose from optional specializations in areas such as accounting, management, finance, entrepreneurship and marketing.

University of California - Riverside

The Riverside campus of the University of California offers a flex MBA and a traditional MBA program. The traditional MBA program includes a required communication workshop and allows students to choose from completing a thesis or group project. The flex MBA program requires the completion of 80 units that can be spread out over several years or completed in 20 months. Required MBA courses for both programs include information systems, marketing management, financial accounting and operations management for competitive advantage. Students must complete a capstone course in management synthesis, which includes group work to understand how areas of management work together; they must complete fieldwork in management as well.

University of San Diego

In San Diego, students at the University of San Diego (USD) can pursue an MBA with several delivery options, including a full-time MBA, an international MBA or an evening MBA. The international MBA requires competency in a foreign language, and students complete experiences on two different continents. The evening MBA is designed to allow students to attend school part-time around their work schedule. Students also have the opportunity to complete a dual degree program leading to a Juris Doctor/MBA or a Master of Science in Real Estate/MBA. International dual degrees are also offered; students in these programs complete one year of study at USD and another year in Mexico or Germany. Finally, individuals who have a Juris Doctor and corporate counsel experience can enroll in a 1-year custom corporate MBA program.
