Career College of Northern Nevada
Career College of Northern Nevada (CCNN) is a private school that offers career-oriented diploma and associate degree programs. The college offers several areas of study, each with an advisory committee made up of local business owners. This arrangement allows CCNN to offer programs that include curriculums based on the needs of industries. CCNN offers various financial aid programs to students.
Associate of Occupational Studies in Medical Assisting
The medical assistant program takes approximately 16.5 months to complete. In addition to coursework, students have hands-on training to obtain experience. Upon completion of this 66-week program, candidates are prepared to work as medical assistants in medical facilities. Each applicant at CCNN must take part in an interview and campus tour and submit his or her high school diploma.
Lake Tahoe Community College
Located on a picturesque setting that makes it California's highest college above sea level, Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is a public college that offers classrooms, labs, a student center and educational programs in various areas of study. LTCC's school calendar consists of three 12-week quarters, along with a 6-week summer session. In addition to degree and conventional certificate programs, the college also offers many short-term departmental certificate programs designed to train students in a specific field of study and prepare them for immediate employment.
Employable Skills Certificates - Medical Terminology and Billing/Coding
These 2 short-term certificate programs help prepare students for entry-level positions in medical offices where they can work in an administrative or clinical capacity. Students can choose to complete the 8-unit medical terminology or the 8-unit billing and coding certificate program. The medical terminology option is a 2-part class that teaches students the terminology used in medical settings. The billing and coding option teaches students how to process insurance claims using coding systems.
Certificate of Achievement in Medical Office Assistant: Administrative
The required courses in this 31.75-unit program cover bookkeeping fundamentals, coding and billing, medical terminology and administrative medical assisting. Students also choose from among electives that cover speech and professional and business communication practices.
Associate of Arts in Medical Office Assistant: Administrative
Those interested in obtaining a degree in this field will take all of the same fundamental and basic courses and select from the same communications electives offered in the certificate of achievement program. The 90-credit curriculum also includes general education requirements in math, English, social sciences, humanities, self-development, cultural pluralism, and physical and biological sciences.
Milan Institute of Cosmetology-Sparks
Milan Institute of Cosmetology is a private school that offers educational programs as well as various beauty, hair care and health services to the public. Students get the opportunity to work with the public under supervision and gain hands-on training at the same time. The college offers various training programs, such as cosmetology, administrative specialist and medical assistant, among others.
Medical/Clinical Assistant Certificate
The medical/clinical assistant program at Milan Institute of Cosmetology prepares students for careers in medical offices, hospitals or clinics. Students receive the training needed to work in a healthcare industry. They learn about obtaining medical histories, taking vital signs, scheduling appointments and preparing patients for examinations. The program is available in 34-week and 42-week formats.
