NHTI Concord Community College
Opening in 1965, New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) officially changed its name to NHTI Concord Community College in 2008. This college's programs consist of 42 associate degree programs and 48 certificate programs. In addition, two professional certificate programs are available. The medical coding certificate program is one of several medical-related certificate programs offered. Others include medical transcription, orthopaedic technology and radiation therapy.
Medical Coding Certificate
This 30-credit, 5-semester program is offered online. Students receive training in 3-M Coding and Grouping software. Coursework topics include hospital coding, pathophysiology, medical terminology, ambulatory coding, and health care data content and delivery. Graduates of the medical coding certificate program are eligible to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam administered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
Manchester Community College
Manchester Community College offers over 60 certificate and associate degree programs. The school has articulation agreements with various schools in the United States offering 4-year programs, including schools in New Hampshire. Students interested in learning medical coding can pursue the school's certificate program, while the associate degree program in health information management offers a more rounded education.
Medical Coding Certificate
Manchester Community College's 41-credit program trains students to code data and diagnoses for mental health facilities, hospitals, clinics and doctor's offices. Included are courses about the human body, CPT coding, ICD-CM coding and reimbursement. Students who complete the program are also prepared to take the Certified Coding Specialist exam through AHIMA.
Associate Degree in Health Information Management
This comprehensive degree program includes some of the same coursework required for the medical coding certificate program. Additional class topics include human diseases, health performance management, healthcare statistics and critical thinking. General education courses are also included. Students complete practicum courses during the final two semesters of this five-semester program.
