CSU - Bakersfield
California State University in Bakersfield has an Extended Education department that offers many online and hybrid programs. Along with on-campus programs, there are over 30 certificate and degree programs that can be completed through the Extended Education department, and one of these programs is the medical transcription and editing certificate.
Medical Transcription and Editing Certificate
This program is set up 100% wholly online for those who want to learn the skills necessary to become a medical transcriptionist. Students must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. This program takes about six months to complete and requires 640 hours of instruction. In this program, students will look at course topics in medical word building, medical terminology, keyboard kinetics, grammar, pharmacology, diagnostic reports, and transcription skills.
Los Angeles Trade Technical College
Within the business and civic engagement pathway at Los Angeles Trade Technical College, students can pursue a medical office assistant certificate program. This program trains students for occupations in a medical office, and it includes a medical transcription course.
Medical Office Assistant Certificate of Achievement
To complete this certificate program, students must complete 32 credits of coursework. Program-related courses include records management and filing, computer keyboarding, medical terminology, medical transcription and medical office procedures. Students can typically complete this program in 3 semesters.
