Spokane Falls Community College

These programs are designed to help students obtain the Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) credential in Washington.

Associate of Applied Science in Addiction Studies

This associate's degree program is designed for students who have less than 45 college credit hours. Students will study topics related to mental health counseling, including case management, family systems and counseling techniques. Students can complete this 90-credit-hour program in six quarters. The program includes two practicum courses.

Certificate in Addiction Studies

Students who have completed at least 45 credit hours and want to take certain chemical dependency courses can benefit from this program. This 1-year certificate program requires 15 credit hours. Students will cover specific addiction studies areas, such as group facilitation, family and adolescent counseling, treatment theories and case management.

Eastern Washington University

The Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredits this graduate program. The program is offered through the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Social Work.

Master of Science in Counselor Education: Mental Health Counseling

Students will need to complete at least 93 credit hours in this graduate program. Course topics include psychological research, career counseling, group theory, counseling for children and parent education. Required coursework also includes a practicum, research project and internship. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are prepared to pursue licensure as a mental health counselor.

Gonzaga University

The clinical mental health counseling program at Gonzaga stresses the development of leadership skills and a solid understanding of fundamental concepts that will serve graduates well in their future careers.

Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The program consists of 60 credits and can be completed in two years. Throughout their studies, students will come to cultivate their own personal theory of counseling, which they will then apply to their course load. Course topics include human growth and development, psychopathology, group process, and adolescent counseling. In addition to courses, students will also be expected to complete an internship in which they will gain valuable hands-on experience.
