Degree Programs at Montgomery College
Montgomery College, with campuses in Rockville, Germantown and Takoma Park/Silver Spring, offers certificate and associate degree programs in more than 130 areas of study. The school also provides non-degree honors and letter of recognition programs in areas such as art, business and biomedical science.
Transfer Degree Programs
Montgomery College provides Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.), Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) and Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) programs. These degree programs can prepare students for entry into 4-year institutions.
Associate of Arts Programs
The A.A. program at Montgomery College provides liberal and fine arts training. Students can study areas such as business, computer science, art and general studies.
Associate of Science Programs
The A.S. program at this school focuses on science and technology. These programs award degrees in basic science, nursing and engineering science.
Associate of Arts in Teaching Programs
AAT programs provide courses and field training similar to the first two years of a teaching program. The degree program can prepare graduates to study early childhood, elementary and secondary education at a 4-year institution.
Associate of Fine Arts Programs
During an AFA program, courses cover content similar to what is learned in the first two years of a bachelor's degree program in fine arts. Concentration options are available in either studio art or graphic design.
Career Training Degree Programs
Montgomery College's Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree programs are designed to prepare students to join the job market immediately upon graduation. AAS programs offer vocational and technical courses of study. Although this program is aimed at individuals who are not interested in attending a 4-year college or university, some programs allow students to transfer to colleges and universities that offer programs of study in similar areas.
Three honors programs are available at Montgomery College. The school's honors programs provide both degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students with additional educational experiences before and during college.
Renaissance Scholars Program
The first honors program, known as the Renaissance Scholars program, is an interdisciplinary program that offers evening and weekend classes, faculty mentoring, internships and a 2-week summer study program. This program is available only at the Germantown and Takoma Park/Silver Spring campuses.
Montgomery Scholars Program
Montgomery Scholars is a 2-year program for high school graduates who plan on transferring to a 4-year college or university. The program may provide internship opportunities, as well as travel opportunities to Asheville, North Carolina.
Macklin Business Institute Honors Program
The final honors program, known as the Macklin Business Institute Honors Program, offers training in business courses such as statistics and economics. Students interested in this program must have completed their first year of business transfer studies at Montgomery College. Participation in experiential learning activities is a requirement of this honors program. These activities may include weekly seminars, lecture series, internships and apprenticeship programs.
