Schools often desire certain charitable qualities in their students. Those applying are strongly recommended to have worked or volunteered in a health clinic or community health center assisting the less fortunate.

Like many medical degree programs, naturopathy degree programs include courses in anatomy, biology and biochemistry. After this core coursework is completed, classes will shift into natural healing seminars and theory, focusing on natural cures, organ harmony, and medical office business practices and maintenance. Courses may include the following:

  • Physiology

Continuing Education

In order to become a state-licensed doctor of naturopathic medicine, graduates of a 4- or 5-year program must receive passing grades on the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Exam. This test covers clinical and basic sciences, as well as therapeutic and diagnostic subjects. This test is graded on a pass-fail process and written by naturopathic doctors in both the United States and Canada.

Naturopathy is a medical theory based on the idea that the human body can heal itself and ward off disease through diet, exercise, lifestyle changes, and natural therapy. Graduates from these programs often find work in private practice and must hold state licensure to practice.
