Essential Information

In Florida, career training programs for network administration are often found at an extension of a public school district. In addition to awarding a diploma or certificate, these programs typically prepare students to pass industry-recognized credentialing exams from vendors such as Cisco and Microsoft. The fees for these exams are typically not included in the program tuition.

M-DCPS The English Center

A part of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), The English Center in Miami offers full-service adult education opportunities. Among these opportunities is the 1050-hour network administration program. Students work with a mock network environment based on Microsoft 2008 servers. The program begins with an introduction to computers and a subsequent six-course curriculum in networks. Classes are offered in three-month terms, with virtually no limit on the number of classes which can be taken. In addition to the certificate earned by the course, students are also sequentially prepared to take the CompTIA A+ and Microsoft Certified Professional exams.

Manatee Technical Institute

Located in Bradenton, Manatee Technical was founded in 1962 and continues to serve as a career and continuing education school. The school's network support program provides many of the same educational goals as a network administrator program. These goals included network security, wireless network, and basic hardware configuration. Graduates of this program are prepared to take both the Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician and CompTIA A+ exams.

Sheridan Technical Center

Founded in 1968, the Sheridan Technical center in Hollywood, Florida, is a division of the Broward County School District. The school offers two different network administration programs. A Microsoft-based program focuses on Microsoft Server 2008 environments, preparing students to pass Microsoft Certified Professional and CompTIA Network+ exams. The 1,050-hour Cisco Certified Network Academy focuses on network infrastructure employing Cisco-based solutions, ultimately preparing students to earn their Cisco Certified Networking Associate credential.

Walton Career Development Center

Located between Pensacola and Tallahassee in the city of Defuniak Springs, the Walton Career Development Center serves as a part of the Walton County School District. This public institution provides affordable, career-oriented education that includes a network administration program. The 1050-hour network support services program covers a variety of areas of information technology, including wireless network administration, computer support, and data communication analysis. The program also prepares successful graduates to pass the CompTIA A+ exam.

Westside Tech

Located in Winter Garden, Westside Tech serves students from throughout the Orange County School District with both basic adult education and job preparation programs. Similar to other programs affiliated with school districts, Westside Tech provides a 1,050-hour program specifically geared towards entry into the network administration field. Admission is open to virtually all adults, but a Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) may be required prior to enrollment. This test costs $15 for prospective students.

Winter Park Tech

This other member of the Orange County Public School System resides north of Orlando, in Winter Park. This school subscribes to the same 1,050-hour format but is located closer to the city than the campus in Winter Garden. Technical topics covered include the Windows Server 2012 products, wireless networks, and IT infrastructure security. Students who wish to continue to another college earn 21 credits towards that goal. Over 300 partners from area industries ensure that instructors are trained and that programs are career-relevant.
