New Hampshire offers several programs for students looking to become graphic designers, website designers, and computer-aided designers, as well as other designers. Students can complete a program leading to a certificate or an associate's or bachelor's degree. Many design programs concentrate on hands-on execution of skills, be they through specialized computer software or free-hand. Additionally, the majority of programs include capstone projects, the creation of a portfolio, or internship experience. Evening and online classes are available. Profiled below are the private and public schools that offer design programs in the state of New Hampshire.

Colby-Sawyer College

London's Colby-Sawyer College introduces students to computer technology and hand skills as they work on page layouts, posters and logo designs within the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. The program also includes field trips to print production sites and design studios, in addition to lectures by professional designers. Within the fine and performing arts department, students can complete internships and have the opportunity to participate in the Graphic Design Students Alliance. The curriculum also includes a capstone project at an art gallery. In addition to state-of-the-arts computers with the latest software, students have access to scanners, projectors, and printers at the Sawyer Fine Arts Center.

Great Bay Community College

Great Bay Community College is found in Portsmouth and features a certificate in digital design and animation. The program combines sound, graphics, video, and animation and is offered within the Department of Computer Technologies. Students create a portfolio as they progress through the program and learn about web programming, three-dimensional animation, game design, and publication design. Students work on group projects and are prepared for career placement.

Lakes Region Community College

Laconia is home to the Lakes Region Community College where students are prepared for careers as graphic designers, web page designers, desktop publishers and imaging specialists within the graphic design associate degree. Students complete coursework in typography, design software essentials, digital imaging, digital photography, and drawing. The 66-67 credit program also includes a co-op education experience. In addition to the degree program, students can complete a certificate program in graphic design.

Manchester Community College

Manchester Community College is located in Manchester and teaches students about advertising principles, layout techniques, and industry-standard computer applications through the graphic design degree and certificate programs. While completing their internship in the graphic design degree and certificate program, individuals gain professional job attitudes and learn about career opportunities. Coursework examines page layout and design, digital imaging, computer illustration, and typography. While the 33-credit graphic illustration and 21-credit graphic design for web certificates don't include an internship, students are trained in color theory and graphic design.

Nashua Community College

Nashua is home to Nashua Community College, which offers website design certificate and website application development degree programs. These programs are offered during the day and evening and include such classes as server-side scripting, PC assembly and JAVA programming. In addition to coursework, website application development students complete an internship or capstone experience.

New England College

Located in Henniker, New England College offers a bachelor's degree in graphic and communication design through the art department's media arts concentration. In addition to a senior project in studio art, students complete concentration-specific courses in photography, illustration, graphic design and 20th-century art. Within the core courses, students delve into two-dimensional design, drawing and art history. Additionally, in the second year of the program, students are required to complete a foundation review by submitting portfolios of work to faculty members.

New Hampshire Technical Institute - Concord's Community College (NHTI)

Concord's NHTI introduces students to interactive graphics programming, interactive animation development, and physics within the graphic game programming degree. Designed for game designers and developers, learners create a website portfolio that can be used for job and education opportunities. Students can also complete an internship component. The school also offers a part-time 18-credit computer-aided design certificate that teaches students about architectural graphics, PC applications, and architectural sketching through evening-only classes.

Southern New Hampshire University

Manchester is home to Southern New Hampshire University where students who are interested in game design and development can earn a bachelor's degree. Within the computer information technology bachelor's degree program, students can either concentrate on game design and development or web design and development. Both programs are offered in an online format.

Students looking for careers in graphic design can complete a graphic design and media arts bachelor's degree program, which explores information technology, advertising, and video production. In addition to faculty members, which include an award-winning film director, a lead animator and a digital media pioneer, graphic design students have access to a graphic media lab and the New Hampshire creative club.
