CUNY (The City University of New York) Hostos Community College

Located in the Bronx, CUNY Hostos Community College offers an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) program in digital design and animation. This program emphasizes current standards and skills in the animation industry. Students learn about usable design, motion graphics and animation concepts. The program also covers software like Maya and After Effects.

Fashion Institute of Technology

The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) program in computer animation and interactive media. The program includes classes in principles of animation, storyboarding, drawing, storytelling and modeling. Students also complete a thesis and a senior project. Applicants to the program must turn in a portfolio and complete prerequisites like 3-D modeling and 2-D animation.

Marist College

Students can pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program in digital media at Marist College in Poughkeepsie. The program includes courses in digital animation, art and drawing. A senior thesis portfolio is also required. Students can choose to complete an internship.

Mohawk Valley Community College

Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica has an A.A.S. program in digital animation. The program covers animation for the Internet, films and television. Students learn about techniques in claymation, puppet animation and cell animation. Related coursework in drawing, storyboarding and cartooning also is required. Animation students develop a professional portfolio in the program.

New York University

New York University in New York City offers a bachelor's degree program in film and television that has a variety of animation courses. Students study rendering, stop motion animation, animation techniques and advanced animation production. There is also an Advanced Certificate in Digital Media Design for Learning program available to students with a related master's degree. Students take courses in studio animation, storyboarding and After Effects.

Pace University - New York

Pace University is located in New York City and has a digital design certificate program. Required classes include drawing and digital design. Students can choose three elective courses, like video animation, digital animation and Flash animation. This school also offers a program that leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art & Design. Required classes within the digital art and graphic design concentration include 2- and 3-dimentional animation. Students can also focus on creating animation for companies during their internship experiences.

Pratt Institute - Main

Located in Brooklyn, Pratt Institute offers a digital arts bachelor's degree program with concentrations in 2-D animation, 3-D animation and motion arts or interactive arts. Students learn about aesthetic, conceptual and technological skills in digital animation. The school also provides a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Digital Animation and Motion Arts program. Graduate students participate in seminars and develop a thesis.

Rochester Institute of Technology

The Rochester Institute of Technology provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs in film and animation in the city of Rochester. The B.F.A. program has a concentration in film and animation. The New School in New York City also offers a B.F.A. in Art, Media and Technology. Applicants to the program must turn in a portfolio for admission. The program teaches students about successful storytelling and animation development. Students should keep in mind that The New School focuses more on experimental and artistic animation, rather than professional animation production. Students learn about 3-D and traditional cell animation. Industry software like Maya, After Effects and Final Cut Pro is used.

Villa Maria College

Villa Maria College in Buffalo has a B.F.A. in Animation. The program teaches students about 2-D and 3-D design, rigging, traditional animation and modeling. Students must complete internships and senior capstone courses. The college provides software like Quicktime Pro, Maya and Adobe CS6.
