Numerous barbering courses can be found in Hempstead at the Barber & Beauty Institute of New York. The basic apprentice barbering class is 500 hours and goes over hair cutting and styling for men, facial hair design and shaving, microbiology, barbering history and safe work practices. The 700-hour master barber program's curriculum is on barbershop management, job searching, facial treatments and massages and barber law. Students who are licensed cosmetologists that want to acquire barbering skills have several courses to choose from. The first class is a 200-hour program intended to teach basic barbering skills while the 400-hour program is for students that want to develop master barbering techniques. There are also several skill refresher courses intended for basic barbers and master barbers looking to familiarize themselves with the content covered on state licensing examinations.
Sharp Edgez Barber Institute
Sharp Edgez Barber Institute is located in Rochester and offers a 600-hour barber styling program. The program can be completed in 19 weeks if taken full-time, and 27 weeks if taken on a part-time basis. Students in this program are taught skills in haircutting, hair styling, tapering, trimming, men's hairpieces, scalp treatments, facials, shampooing, shop management, and state licensing laws.
Shear Ego International School
Shear Ego International School is also located in Rochester and offers a 600-hour barber and styling program. The program can be completed in less than 5 months. Students in this program are taught how to conduct job searches, sell products in a barber shop and manage a barber shop.
