New York City Schools with International Business Programs

Formal education programs in international business can be found at a public school affiliated with the City University of New York (CUNY) and two private universities. Available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, the programs can lead to a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) or Master of Business Administration (MBA). The school sections and table below include more information about these programs and universities. At the end of the article, aspiring international business professionals can also find two other school options.

  • Located in Lower Manhattan, Pace University offers two BBA programs in global marketing and international management, as well as an MBA in International Business.
  • New York University, located in Greenwich Village in downtown Manhattan, offers two Bachelor of Science (BS) programs in business, along with an MBA in Global Business.
  • Located in the Gramercy Park area of Manhattan, CUNY Bernard M. Baruch College offers both a BBA and an MBA in International Business.

Pace University

Pace University offers numerous undergraduate majors, master's programs and doctoral programs. The Lubin School of Business at Pace University can be found on three campuses. This school offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, but only a few focus specifically on international business.

BBA in International Management

This BBA program at Pace University allows students to concentrate on the regions of Latin America, Asia or Europe. Students are expected to take foreign language courses and participate in a study abroad program in their region of interest. Major requirements include courses in managerial concepts, business strategy, international management and organizational behavior. International management electives include a field study, seminar and a course on business law. The curriculum requires a total of 128 credit hours.

BBA in Marketing with a Global Marketing Management concentration

Designed for students interested in careers in marketing analysis and research, this degree program involves major courses in marketing principles, marketing research and advanced marketing management. The global marketing concentration focuses on managerial marketing, sales management and consumer behavior. Students can expect field studies and seminars in international marketing while completing the required 128 credit hours.

MBA in International Business

The professional core of the Pace MBA program includes courses in business operations, innovation, globalization, economics and organizational leadership. Required specialization courses for this concentration focus on transnational business systems and global business strategy. Specialization electives include the study of legal aspects, accounting, economics, corporate finance and marketing in relation to international business. The curriculum requires 39 credit hours. A capstone course is mandatory.

New York University

New York University (NYU) is a large, private research university in Manhattan. The Stern School of Business offers several degree programs relevant to undergraduate and graduate students looking to study international business.

BS in Business

The core undergraduate business program allows students to enroll in a global business co-concentration. Students choose from among courses in international financial management, global marketing strategy and global macroeconomics. Elective courses cover such topics as global economic trends, emerging finance markets and business in transition economies. There are also courses addressing Chinese, Asian and Middle East economies and markets.

BS in Business and Political Economy

This 4-year undergraduate program is designed entirely around the intersection of international business and politics. Students take courses at NYU's campuses in New York and Shanghai. Travel is required; course topics can include global economic trends, international politics and globalization.

MBA in Global Business

Stern's 2-year MBA program has a global business concentration that students can declare in their final year. The school also offers flexible study abroad options for graduate students. Global business courses include the study of global banking, global strategy, operations in Panama and advanced global perspectives on enterprise systems.

MS in Global Finance

The 1-year graduate degree in finance at NYU is offered jointly with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; students take courses in New York, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Before applying, prospective students are encouraged to have at least five years of professional work experience, in addition to a bachelor's degree.

CUNY Bernard M Baruch College

CUNY Baruch College offers international business concentrations at the undergraduate and graduate levels through the Zicklin School of Business. These programs require courses in international and intercultural studies, as well as core requirements in economics, finance and marketing.

BBA in International Business

Students in the international business major in the business school are required to choose an area of specialization, such as finance or marketing, and they must complete a foreign language requirement. Some students may also be able to participate in an international internship program or complete a capstone project.

MBA in International Business

The MBA program at Baruch College can be completed in 21 months of full-time study or in 2-4 years of part-time evening study. The first-year curriculum is the same for all candidates, but in the second year students may pursue electives from various departments, including the department of marketing and international business. Those electives address such topics as global advertising, international business strategy, internet marketing and global firms.

Other School Options

A bachelor's degree in international trade and marketing for the fashion industry is also available at the Fashion Institute of Technology, a member of the State University of New York (SUNY), located directly in downtown Manhattan. Fordham University, located in midtown Manhattan, offers a master's degree in global finance.
