North Carolina State University at Raleigh

Students interested in biotechnology can look into programs offered at the Raleigh campus of North Carolina State University. Undergraduate students can minor in biotechnology while they pursue another degree program. Students interested in this course of study must complete prerequisite courses in chemistry. Courses include biology, manipulation of DNA and protein purification.

Graduate students can also pursue a minor in biotechnology. This minor is open to both master's degree students and Ph.D. students at North Carolina State University. Students interested in this minor need to complete at least eight credits in biotechnology courses.

Non-thesis master's degree students may also look into the school's graduate certificate in biotechnology. This program is focused on hands-on lab training in biotechnology. Interested students must have an undergraduate degree in a science or engineering discipline. Students must complete 12 hours worth of courses in biotechnology to obtain the certificate.

University of North Carolina at Pembroke

Students in the Pembroke area may want to check out the University of North Carolina. This school offers a bachelor's degree in biotechnology as part of its biology program. Students pursuing this degree are required to follow an interdisciplinary curriculum. For example, students take courses in physics, chemistry, biology and math, in addition to biotechnology. The program includes theoretical courses in addition to laboratory training.

Winston-Salem State University

Winston-Salem State University is located in Winston Salem. This school offers a bachelor's degree in biotechnology, which is merged with the school's bachelor's degree program in molecular biology. This multidisciplinary program includes courses like chemistry, microbiology, genetics, physics and bioinformatics. Students also take lab courses in physics, biochemistry and molecular genetics.
