Nursing Administration Degree Programs in Minnesota

In Minnesota, nursing administration can be offered as a concentration within a Master of Science or Arts in Nursing program. Some programs may be titled 'nursing and organizational leadership' or include a concentration in an area like transformational leadership. Graduate students may be required to complete a thesis or a capstone project to finish their studies, and certain programs integrate an internship experience. Additionally, depending on the school, students may be able to take some courses online.

Augsburg College

Augsburg College is situated in Minneapolis and enrolls about 4,000 students. The college offers a Master of Arts in Nursing with a track in transformational nursing leadership designed to prepare nurse leaders. This program includes ten courses and either a thesis or graduate project. Classes cover topics like transcultural care systems, management of health care organizations, the politics of health care and transcultural healing practices.

Winona State University

With its main campus in Winona, this university enrolls about 9,000 students. It offers a Master of Science in Nursing and Organizational Leadership, the courses for which are mainly offered online. This 43-semester-hour program provides instruction in human resources management, financial accountability, project management and organization management. The program's curriculum also includes an internship. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Executive in Nursing Practice (CENP) exam offered by the American Organization of Nurse Executives.

Career Requirements

Minnesota requires nursing home administrators to be licensed. To become licensed, an individual must have at least a bachelor's degree and have completed a 400-hour practicum. Aspiring nursing home administrators must also pass an exam.
