Baker College

Occupational therapy assistant programs at Baker College are offered at 2 campus locations in Allen Park and Muskegon. Students enrolled in this program earn an Associate of Applied Science and learn how to apply the fundamental principles of occupational therapy through the practice and application of skills. This program has selective admission.

Grand Rapids Community College

Located in Grand Rapids, this college's occupational therapy assistant program awards the Associate in Applied Arts and Sciences. The OTA program has limited enrollment and admission requirements that include passing scores on placement exams in reading and math, minimum GPA requirements and prerequisite courses. The 2-year curriculum includes 1 summer session, and students take courses in human development, therapeutic intervention and kinesiology.

Macomb Community College

Macomb Community College is situated in Warren and offers a 2-year occupational therapy assistant program that has selective admission. Students in the program have the opportunity to get hands-on training through the college's on-site OTA lab and clinical fieldwork courses. Macomb Community College has affiliations with many sites, including hospitals, schools, care centers and rehabilitation clinics.

Mott Community College

Flint's Mott Community College has an OTA program that confers an Associate in Applied Science. Students considering this program need to meet admission requirements by completing prerequisite courses and performing occupational therapy observation hours, along with achieving a passing score on the reading placement exam. OTA students can also earn a physical therapy assistant degree while completing their OTA program. This dual tract option takes three years to complete and requires students to be formally accepted to both programs.

Career Requirements

In Michigan, occupational therapy assistants (OTAs) need to be formally licensed.
