University of Central Oklahoma
The design department at University of Central Oklahoma offers undergraduate and graduate programs in design. The graphic design program, in particular, is the largest of its kind between northern Texas and Kansas City.
Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Graphic Design
Integrating advertising, communication and art, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design program prepares students for careers in art direction, graphic design, illustration or new media. Students develop skills in design renderings, design theories, computer-aided design and typography. During the course of the BFA program, students also keep portfolios of work for design faculty staff to review.
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design
Graduates of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design program at University of Central Oklahoma are trained to work as furniture designers, residential interior designers, space planners or commercial interior designers. This program has earned accreditation by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). Students not only learn basics in design, colors, aesthetics and space, but also study important codes and regulations for both commercial and residential design.
Master of Fine Arts in Design
Students in this Master of Fine Arts program study advanced concepts and theories in the education, research and proficiency of design. MFA coursework may center on design teaching and methodology, creative problem solving or advanced design research. Students may choose to complete a cumulative thesis design project or a research paper.
Oklahoma Christian University
Oklahoma Christian University has an enrollment of more than 2,000 students. It is a Christian college that is affiliated with the Church of Christ.
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design
OCU graduates who hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design may work in design firms, in marketing departments or as self-employed designers. The program requires 30 credit hours in advertising and graphic design coursework. During this time, students learn basics in graphic design, graphic production, design history and typography. In addition, students take classes in copywriting, new media, illustration and marketing management.
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design
A Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design prepares students for careers in architectural offices, design firms, retail stores or manufacturing companies. Graduates of Oklahoma Christian University may also find opportunities to work independently as contracted interior designers. The program requires 39 credit hours of interior design-focused coursework. Aspiring designers develop skills in textiles, materials, space planning, commercial design and computer-aided design. Required internships give students hands-on exposure to the current interior design industry.
