Online Courses in Anatomy and Physiology

Below is a partial list of schools that offer online anatomy and physiology studies:

  • Human Pathophysiology Course: This course provides study in cell injury and disease of various body systems, including endocrine, circulatory, nervous and musculoskeletal systems. This is a bachelor's degree completion program for RNs with an associate degree.
  • Anatomy Course: This course is offered through a Carmen online learning system. Studies include demonstrations on human cadavers.
  • Medical Histology Course: In this course, students will explore human cells and the various tissue structures of organs in the human body. Diagnostic imaging will also be examined.
  • Principles of Medical Physiology Course: This course will teach students about clinical medicine. Topics include bodily functions, systems in the body and pregnancy, exercise and stress.
  • Forensics, Geriatrics and Reproductive Systems Course: In this course, students will learn about the human reproductive systems. Human genetics will also be covered, in addition to diseases that are genetic, how forensics relates to anatomy and physiology and ways that people can maintain healthy bodies.

Program Information

Generally, anatomy and physiology courses cover all the body systems, such as the endocrine, muscular, nervous and digestive systems. They also delve into cytology and histology, human genetics, metabolism and development. A dissection lab with a human cadaver may be part of the anatomy class.

Online anatomy and physiology courses can be used as prerequisites for students whose ultimate goal is to enter health care professions. Programs are offered via undergraduate and graduate certificates, and associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs. Many nursing and physician assistant programs require students to take anatomy and physiology separately, each with its associated lab. Together, this sequence of courses usually comprises 6-8 semester units. For other programs, a combination anatomy and physiology course will suffice, and the course is often offered as part of the program, rather than a prerequisite. Students should check to see which type of courses they are required to take.

Online anatomy and physiology courses are available as standalone classes, undergraduate and graduate certificates, and associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees. Students will take courses in areas of study that include the human reproductive system, human pathophysiology and medical histology.
