After gaining acceptance into the school, students must then complete mandatory prerequisite course work basic physics and biology, and then may begin their studies in the diagnostic medical sonography program.

In order to be admitted, prospective students must be registered as Diagnostic Sonographers through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), in the areas of Abdomen and OB/GYN. Applicants who have only one of these credentials may take additional coursework to compensate. Students must also have access to and be employed in a fully functional and completely equipped laboratory. These labs are essential to completing clinical didactic courses.

Students with prior college coursework meet with program staff and conduct an evaluation to determine how many credits they will need to graduate. Prior to beginning this program, students must also meet the general admissions criteria for Oregon Tech.
