Let's discuss the availability of online early childhood development diploma programs, then look at some specific institutions with applicable programs.
Schools with Online Early Childhood Development Programs
Early childhood development diploma programs are not typically offered as one hundred percent online programs. In order to complete the online programs, students must take some courses on campus to work with children to practice what they have learned, and to gain classroom experience. Also, while most schools offer certificate or associate's degree programs, diploma programs are uncommon in any format. A certificate or associate degree can be earned in a hybrid format and requires the same amount of credit hours, if not a few more on average, within this field.
Des Moines Area Community College
Des Moines Area Community College offers a diploma program for early childhood education. This program focuses on child development and education planning as well as building the skills of students to care for children's health and dietary needs. The diploma program is 37 credits in duration for early childhood education. Additionally, certain courses are available both online and at other campuses.
North Iowa Area Community College
North Iowa Area Community College offers an Early Childhood Education Diploma with some of the courses available online. The program consists of 30 credit hours, and an additional 12 credit hours in electives is also required.
The program focuses on both the development and attainment of children up to age eight. Upon completion of this program, graduates will be eligible to work in child care centers, such as day care, as well as preschool programs.
College of Southern Nevada
The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) offers an Associate of Arts (AA) degree online, with an emphasis on early childhood education. The program offers two certificate of achievement programs with an infant and toddler emphasis for 31 credits, and a preschool education emphasis for 38 credits. The degree and certificate programs include practicums, which provide opportunities for students to practice teaching methods with children in person.
Pima Community College
Pima Community College offers basic and advanced early childhood studies certificate programs. Both certificate programs provide courses that can be taken online or on campus. The classes are offered on weekdays, and evening and weekend classes are also available. Students have to be physically present with the children to complete an observation requirement. Both the basic and advanced certificate programs allow graduates to apply credits towards the Advanced Early Childhood Credit Certificate, or the Early Childhood Studies Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.
Students interested in online early childhood development diploma programs must enroll in hybrid options. Schools with diploma programs include Des Moines Area Community College and North Iowa Area Community College, while the College of Southern Nevada and Pima Community College offer certificate and associate's degrees in the field.
