Essential Information

For students who wish to study philosophy but do not have the time or resources for a traditional program, a number of online options are available that allow participants to build their own schedules and complete coursework at their own pace. These programs are fully online and typically offered at the bachelor's level. Online programs do exist at the graduate level, but they are rare compared to undergraduate programs.

Courses are delivered using online applications and software. Additional admissions requirements (outside of the standard undergraduate prerequisites, such as a high school diploma) aren't common, but some programs require prior coursework or a personal statement. Students must have access to software such as Moodle or iTunes U.

This accredited, public, 4-year university offers an online undergraduate major and minor in philosophy, as well as an online master's degree in liberal and integrative studies that allows for a philosophy specialization. Online philosophy degree programs use the Blackboard course interface.

Courses are delivered via Moodle, a software application designed for online learning, and iTunes U.

Information and Requirements

The department offers a minimum of nine credit hours each semester, with course offerings at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Applicants to this program do not need a minimum number of prior credit hours, but must submit a statement of purpose.
