Washburn University: Certificate Program and School Overviews
All of Washburn's online ultrasound certificate programs, which are offered through the university's Department of Allied Health, require courses in cardiovascular physics and instrumentation, including preparation for the instrumentation board examination. Extensive clinical experiences (24 hours each week) are also required. Students must be certified in CPR and pass a background check before beginning clinical work.
General and Vascular Sonography
Classes in this online certificate program cover general ultrasound procedures for obstetrics and gynecology, as well as abdominal and small parts procedures. Lessons cover vascular technology procedures through both study and mock testing, which prepares students for the vascular technology specialty-credentialing exam. Students also explore specialized new procedures in breast, uterine, and nervous system ultrasound and learn to perform puncture and biopsy procedures.
This distance learning certificate program covers the same vascular courses as the general and vascular sonography certificate program. However, all of the clinical work revolves around vascular ultrasound in a variety of clinical settings.
The ultrasound procedure for heart disease diagnosis is called echocardiography. Students in this online certificate program prepare for the cardiac specialty board exams. This program covers the following topics:
- General echocardiography
- Stress echoes
- Transesophageal echoes
- Diastolic dysfunction
