Students can receive pastry arts training in Tennessee through culinary arts degree and certificate programs. While there aren't an abundance of schools in the state of Tennessee that offer training in the field, there are a few community colleges that provide students with the knowledge and skills to work in pastry arts. Students in these programs learn about baking cakes, decorating pastries and creating chocolate treats. An internship opportunity is included by at least one of the schools.

Nashville State Community College
Nashville State Community College in Nashville offers culinary arts technical certificate and associate degree programs. The culinary arts technical certificate program requires 21 credits and can be completed in one year. Courses teach students about using knives, cooking meat, making vegetables and working in a professional bakeshop. The associate degree program in culinary arts takes two years to complete and covers topics in baking, advanced pastry making, menu planning, international cuisine and cost control. Two internships are also a part of the program.
Pellissippi State Community College
Located in Knoxville, Pellissippi State Community College offers a culinary arts specialization as a part of its business administration associate degree program. Students are required to complete 60 credits and take courses in baking, cost control, breakfast cookery and cooking skills. The baking courses teach students how to make breads and pastries, including tarts, pies, cakes and icings. Several business and management courses are also included in the curriculum.
Walters State Community College
Walters State Community College is located in Morristown and offers culinary arts certificate and associate degree programs. Students need to earn 23 credit hours for the technical certificate, and the program includes courses in nutrition, menu planning, baking and pastry skills, cost control, decorating cakes and bakeshop skills. The culinary arts associate degree program requires 60 credits. Students can pursue a 10-credit option in baking and pastry arts, where they can learn about cake decorating, chocolate and specialty breads. Students may be able to apply credit earned during the program towards the American Culinary Federation's Certified Pastry Chef title.
