Therapeutic Exercise

This introductory course presents ways to prepare the body for a workout. Students learn stretches and techniques to warm up their muscles prior to exercise and prevent injury. This class also introduces techniques to work out damaged soft tissue and teaches ways to brace and tape muscles. Exercises that help with geriatrics and pregnancy are covered as well.

Strength and Conditioning

In this intermediate course, students develop techniques for helping young adults and adults strengthen and condition their muscles and bodies. Students develop the skills to teach others the fundamentals of weight training and conditioning. They learn to help individuals determine conditioning and weight loss goals as well. Exercises that are best for men or women are identified, and students gain experience practicing them correctly.

Personal Training

Students learn to develop fitness programs for individuals and groups in this advanced class. Students are taught methods for assessing fitness and testing people to see if the designed program is fitting their needs. They also learn when to update fitness programs for individuals or, if necessary, create new ones.

Weight Management Theory

Students examine how environmental, psychological, physiological and metabolic influences affect weight gain. They study long-term weight loss strategies and identify means for keeping weight off. Personal trainer courses like this help prospective trainers identify the primary problems that prohibit certain individuals from losing weight, including behavioral and biological. Students develop fitness programs that include aspects of exercise and nutrition for individuals who have difficulty losing weight.

Sports Nutrition and Fitness

Students examine the connection between fitness and nutrition. They learn to provide nutritional needs to people of all ages and body shapes, making sure a diet is balanced and meeting dietary needs, especially for athletes at their peak.
