Students need a strong understanding of the psychology of teaching, learning, and ethical communication in education. Applicants must be 24 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates under 24 years of age who are military veterans or have completed 24 hours of college credit are exempt; some programs may have additional admission requirements.

Program Description:

The Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology with a specialization in Educational Psychology program at Capella University is designed to teach practicing education professionals how to further their current skills and knowledge in instructional psychology. This program is created to give learners the opportunity to study in more depth general human development and psychology. Students are also given the chance to examine methods of educational research, to learn how to apply ethics to all instructional interactions, and to explore the integration of technology into education. PhD students in this program at Capella may also learn how to develop curriculum with diversified instructional and evaluation methods. Coursework focuses on child development, program evaluation, and motivation.

Required Courses for Doctor of Public Administration:

Students must complete 44 credits in core courses, 30 credits in specialization courses, and 20 credits in one concentration of their choice to fulfill the requirements for the PhD in Psychology with a specialization in Educational Psychology program at Capella. Students are also asked to attend three residencies in addition to coursework. The Doctoral Comprehensive Examination is taken after completing all required coursework, and students must enroll in the Dissertation Courseroom class a total of four times.
