Students who are considering the Medical Laboratory Assistant diploma program may have some science and or math knowledge as well as strong analytical or problem-solving skills. All CDI College applicants must be high school graduates or the equivalent. Some programs may have additional requirements.
Once enrolled in the Medical Laboratory Assistant diploma program offered by CDI College, students have the opportunity to study medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, laboratory safety, ethics, and quality assurance. Core courses also train students in clinical laboratory procedures, such as the processes for procuring and processing specimens, and to use laboratory equipment, such as microscopes. Additional courses cover topics in microbiology, hematology, and clinical chemistry. Students in the Medical Laboratory Assistant program are able to learn through a combination of classroom lectures, demonstrations, hands-on experimentation, and a supervised clinical work experience.
