Penn Foster Career School's Optician Career Diploma program is geared toward students who aspire to learn the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to succeed as a professional optician. Beginning with a basic math and reading assessment, the curriculum of this program is designed to introduce students to the field of opticianry, while blending career-critical business, software, communication, and mathematics skills. Students will have the opportunity to take a focused look at the anatomy of the human eye, its disorders, and how lenses may be used to correct vision. Then, students get the chance to learn ophthalmic dispensing techniques, with coursework in taking facial measurements, adjusting frames, selecting appropriate lenses and frames, and interpreting prescriptions. This program also includes courses in dispensing contact lenses, and includes a review unit for American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) credentialing exams. Additionally, a clinical practicum affords students the chance to earn experience in a professional setting.
