The nonfiction track could be an ideal choice for students who are in love with the power of the written word. Students should be well-read, self-motivated, and have inquisitive minds. A bachelor's degree is required for entry to this master's degree program, though it doesn't need to be in a related field. Applicants also need to submit 20-30 pages of their creative work. Saint Leo University designed the Master of Arts in Creative Writing - Nonfiction program to give talented writers a place to cultivate their technique and unleash their creativity. Much of the curriculum provides individualized instruction - the courses are intended to teach advanced techniques and theories in writing, and the workshops let students polish their original works with a mentor or their fellow students. For three consecutive summers, students spend eight days on campus. The program culminates with a master's thesis in which students create and market an original piece of nonfiction writing.
