Students will not only learn about the technology systems and processes used in the healthcare industry, but also study medical terminology and documentation, professional communication, and ethical concerns in HIM. Additional courses cover medical coding and classification, insurance reimbursement, data management, healthcare delivery systems, and more. The online program includes hands-on experience through either a traditional on-site internship with a preceptor or a hybrid internship where students both work with a preceptor on an off-site project and participate in online simulations. The curriculum of this program is based on the principles established by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Health Information Management education programs (CAHIIM).
