For those interested in the Track I program, a master's degree in criminal justice or a related area is required; Track II candidates must hold a master's degree in any subject unrelated to criminal justice. Current experience in law enforcement, security, or a similar area is important. Applicants to Walden University should have a high school diploma or equivalent; some programs may have additional requirements.

Program Description:

What are some effective strategies utilized by community leaders? Which methods can be used to elicit transformative change in public organizations? How are strategic plans developed for international or nonprofit organizations? These are some of the topics students will explore in the Global Leadership specialization of Walden University's online Ph.D. in Criminal Justice program. In the core curriculum, Track I students can expect to review such topics as policing, terrorism, the evolution of crime, criminal justice policy analysis, and administrative leadership in criminal justice systems. In addition to these topics, those in the Track II curriculum will study criminology theories and criminal behavior patterns, legal interpretations in criminal justice, and trends and investigative approaches to cybercrimes. All students take research-based courses and complete a dissertation. Students of both tracks can opt to expedite studies in a fast-track format.

Required Courses for a PhD in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Global Leadership:

Of the 83 credits needed for Track I students, a total of 20 are taken in the core curriculum; the remaining credits include 15 in specialization courses, 20 in research classes, a 3-credit foundation class, and a 25-credit dissertation. Track II students have the same requirements with the exception of core courses; in this program, a total of 35 credits are taken. Degree program and course requirements are subject to change.
