The University of Texas at San Antonio

The University of Texas at San Antonio offers programs in psychology at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. These programs are provided by the College of Liberal and Fine Arts.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

This degree program requires students to earn 120 credits, 39 of which must be in the major. The experimental psychology course and lab are mandatory. Other courses students may take include human development, cognition, social psychology and abnormal psychology. Independent study and internship opportunities are also available.

Master of Science in Psychology

This program is geared toward students who want to improve their chances of employment in positions that require a graduate degree or who plan to continue their education at the doctoral level. Students must complete 36 credits of coursework to obtain this degree and can finish in 2-3 years. Core courses include psychological measurement, statistics and research design. Students choose from a list of electives, which includes industrial/organizational psychology, health psychology and human cognition. Thesis and non-thesis options are available.

PhD in Psychology

All applicants are required to have a master's degree in psychology with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and documented experience in research. Some may be accepted into this program without these credentials if conditional requirements are met. This doctoral program requires a dissertation and provides students with strong backgrounds in research, but doesn't fulfill all requirements for licensure.

University of the Incarnate Word

The psychology programs at the University of the Incarnate Word offer students instruction in theory and provide research and internship opportunities. An onsite bachelor's psychology program is available, and psychology degree options are offered online as well.

Bachelor's Degrees in Psychology

Students who enroll in this bachelor's program will be required to complete 120 credits for graduation. Classes are available on-campus and online. Topics include the dimensions of wellness, developmental psychology, abnormal psychology, personality, the history of psychology, quantitative methods, and the theories of psychotherapy.

Master of Arts in Administration with a Concentration in Industrial and Organizational Psychology

This master's degree requires 15 hours of core coursework in areas like management issues, organizational behavior, and human resource management. The concentration requires 12 hours of coursework in topics like employee psychology, motivation, diversity and workplace assessment and testing.

Trinity University

Students at this four-year private school can study psychology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Trinity offers a bachelor's in psychology, a minor and a master's program in school psychology.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

Students in this program spend their first year exploring different subject areas within psychology with an eye to choosing an area of particular interest that they can focus on later in the program. In the second year, the emphasis is on psychology methods and statistics. Juniors and seniors start to narrow their focus through psychology electives and complementary coursework in related disciplines, such as management, neuroscience, sociologyor research.

Master of Arts in School Psychology

This master's degree is designed to prepare students for the role of a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP). In this 60-credit program, students engage in three years of study. A 1,200-hour internship is required in the final year. The program covers topics like how humans learn, biosocial science, emotional assessment, research methods, multicultural issues and educational leadership. Students become eligible for certification by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) once they've finished their degree.
