New Jersey has many school options for public speaking. This article identifies individual courses offered by some of the largest schools in the state. Classes range from beginning to advanced levels. Students will spend a good amount of time preparing pieces they will then present to the class at large, providing many opportunities to speak in front of group.

Brookdale Community College

Brookdale Community College in Lincroft is a 2-year school with more than 14,000 undergraduate students enrolled. The Speech Department offers a public speaking course focused on oral communication in academic, business and other professional settings. Through research students will develop their skills for persuasive and demonstrative speeches.

Essex County College

Essex County College is a 2-year institution located in Newark. The English Department offers an Effective Speech course, which covers the basic elements of public speaking, and a Voice and Diction course for students who wish to improve control of their speaking voices.

Kean University

Union's Kean University is a 4-year public institution serving more than 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The Department of Communication offers a variety of classes to help improve public speaking skills. The public speaking class focuses on analysis, planning and delivery of messages. The speech communication as critical citizenship course helps students understand public speaking through practice. The class explores the production, presentation, interpretation and evaluation of oral messages through small group and other public settings. Additional courses include: interpersonal communication, persuasive communication, voice and speech.

Ocean County College

Ocean County College is a 2-year school located in Toms River. The learning institution instructs more than 10,000 undergraduate students yearly and awards certificates and associate's degrees. As part of the communications curriculum, the school offers a class on the fundamentals of public speaking as well as voice and diction.

Passaic County Community College

Paterson's Passaic County Community College teaches more than 8,000 students yearly in its four campuses. The English Department provides a variety of resources for students looking to improve their public speaking skills. The basic course in public speaking instructs on effective presentation techniques. Students gain these skills by researching, organizing, writing and delivering various speeches in an effort to inform persuade, entertain and motivate. Additional resources include a public speaking club and competition.

Rowan College at Burlington County

Pemberton's Rowan College at Burlington County is a 2-year school instructing some 10,000 students. In the school's liberal arts division a public speaking class is available. The course delves into the planning and presentation techniques needed for formal speeches. Students will develop their critical thinking, ethical reasoning and academic researching skills.

Rowan University

Rowan University in Glassboro is a 4-year school offering undergraduate and post-graduate degrees. In the College of Communication and Creative Arts two levels of public speaking classes are offered. The introductory level the public speaking course trains students on the fundamental practices of public speaking. This includes speech preparation and delivery. The advanced level course helps students analyze the special conditions of speech composition. Additionally this course discusses rhetorical style in specialized settings.

Rutgers University

Rutgers University in New Brunswick is a 4-year school offering undergraduate and post-graduate degrees. The School of Communication and Information offers two levels of public speaking classes. A Fundamentals of Public Speaking class, for non-Communication majors, develops oral presentation skills and focuses on diversity and multiculturalism. The Public Speaking class prepares students for formal presentations and includes presentation technologies.

Thomas Edison State University

Trenton's Thomas Edison State University is a 4-year school geared toward adult education. The school offers online courses and prior learning assessment exams. A public speaking course on the development of effective presentation skills before live audiences is offered. Speaking skills are tested by submitting two digitally recorded speeches sent in for grading.

Union County College

Union County College is a 2-year school located within the suburb of Cranford. The English Department offers a public speaking course that instructs on the practice of oral communication. The class involves training on impromptu speaking settings by developing a knowledge of logical organization of materials, audience analysis, methods of persuasion, delivery techniques and more.
