Essential Information

Radiologist technicians assist patients by using magnetic imaging, X-rays and mammography. The goal of a 2-year radiologic assistant master's degree program is to create less of a divide and knowledge barrier between technicians and clinical doctors so the two can better understand each other and create a more efficient setting for the patient. Acceptance to a master's degree program in radiologic assistance requires the student to have had worked a minimum number of years as a radiologic technician or technologist.

To enter a master's program, the applicant must also have an undergraduate degree from an accredited university. Graduate school testing, letters of recommendation and registration with a radiological community at the state or national level may also be required. Master's degree programs in radiologic assistance are available both online and at traditional schools.

Employment Outlook and Salary Info

Job growth in radiology technology is strong and will continue to be so from 2014-2024 (9% for radiologic technologists), according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov). Specializations within radiology assisting and technology may be the best bet for professionals looking for better pay and positions. These specializations include mammography, computed tomography and magnetic imaging. As the population ages and people live longer, all healthcare workers are more in demand and radiology technicians are increasingly used in healthcare settings. In May 2015, the median annual salary of radiologic technologists was $56,670.

A radiologic assistant master's degree program will train students on advanced subjects in radiology to better serve patients. Graduates can expect positive job growth and can further specialize within the field if they choose.
