Attaining a bachelor's degree in business administration or real estate may be something to consider to begin a career as a real estate agent. This degree prepares students to take necessary state licensing exams, but it alone doesn't qualify graduates to be real estate agents or brokers. State licensing boards grant the distinction, and students need to have 60-90 hours of classroom training in order to sit for written exams.

Real estate courses combine industry knowledge with business techniques. Some of the major classes may go towards state licensing requirements. Some of the courses available within the real estate major include the following topics:

Employment Outlook and Salary Information
Graduates have employment opportunities in the real estate industry within public, private, and nonprofit agencies. They may have careers brokering, appraising, managing, locating, or leasing residential and commercial properties. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted that jobs for real estate agents and brokers would rise by 3% from 2014-2024 (www.bls.gov). The BLS reported that the median annual salary for real estate agents was $43,370 in May 2015.
Continuing Education Information
Unlike licensing, certification is not mandatory for real estate agents and brokers. The National Association of Realtors (NAR) does provide different real estate certifications, and they require field experience and education.
Bachelor's degree programs in real estate or business administration with a real estate concentration provide the required education for real estate agents. After graduating, state licensing is required and individuals may choose to pursue voluntary certification in the field.
