List of Sonography Classes

Sonography and Patient Care Course

Sonography students in a patient care course learn about professional ethics, patient monitoring and chart reading. Students also learn about medical terminology and ultrasound equipment in this introductory course.

Physics Course

Students in a physics of sonography course learn about sound waves and how they are created. They also study Doppler, pulsed sound and other physical principles involved in sonography. Students learn about ultrasound equipment and the biological effects of ultrasound on the human body.

Anatomy Course

An anatomy course for sonography students familiarizes class participants with the human body, especially the abdominal region. Often a lecture course, students learn about organs, vascular structures and anatomical relationships. This course covers the pathophysiology of various organs and their functions. Students might also learn about how diseases progress through organs and systems.

Abdominal Course

Students taking an abdominal sonography course learn about the anatomy of the human abdominal area and how to use sonographic technology to diagnose problems. Organs covered in this course include the liver, kidneys, spleen, gallbladder and pancreas. Students also learn about the cardiovascular system and the biliary tract. Other topics covered in this sonography course include diseases and how they affect the abdomen. Some sonography programs offer more than one abdominal sonography course. Later courses may cover abdominal sonography in greater depth than the introductory course.

Vascular Technology Course

Sonography students who take a vascular sonography course learn about Doppler sonography and the arterial system. The course introduces microscopic anatomy, blood study and hemodynamics. Students also learn about common results of vascular examinations.
