University of San Diego

The electrical engineering program at the University of San Diego, which is a Roman Catholic college, offers students a dual Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts in Electrical Engineering. This program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the ABET.

Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts in Electrical Engineering

This 147 degree-unit program covers topics such as digital design, electronics and signals and systems. Students have the opportunity to pursue elective courses in related fields. Other available courses include electricity and magnetism, control systems engineering, engineering statistics and applied math for science and engineering.

San Diego State University

San Diego State University offers students the chance to earn degrees in electrical engineering with the flexibility to pursue courses or research topics of their choice. The electrical and computer engineering department offers these programs.

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

This degree program consists of 133 credit hours. Students can take courses such as analog and digital circuit design, power systems and electromagnetics. Students have the opportunity to pursue a number of elective courses, including lab courses. The degree takes approximately four years to complete with full-time enrollment.

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering

This degree can be completed with a thesis or non-thesis (project) track. Students are able to pursue research assistantships in a variety of topics, including digital system design, power systems, computer engineering or applied electron and molecular spectroscopy. Courses for the degree cover topics such as electromagnetic systems, digital signal processing and communications.

University of California - San Diego

The School of Engineering offers a variety of engineering degree programs, including various electrical engineering 'depth' areas, or areas of concentration. Students should understand that admission to these programs might be limited, which is due to the high demand for the field.

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

This curriculum requires 140 credit hours. Some options include computer system design, communication systems, electronic circuits and systems, machine learning and controls. The program offers many elective courses for students to pursue topics of interest.

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering

Specialization areas for the research-oriented master's degree include intelligent systems, robotics and control, photonics and magnetic recording. Additional specializations include applied electromagnetics, medical devices and systems and signal and image processing. Students choose between thesis and comprehensive exam options for program completion and may plan to pursue the Ph.D.

Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering

Ph.D. students choose from the same areas of specialization available to master's degree students and take advantage of the school's affiliated research labs, including the Center for Magnetic Recording Research, the California Space Institute and the Institute for Nonlinear Science. The degree program is heavily research-oriented and often leads to a career in teaching. Financial support is available in the form of research assistantships, teaching assistantships or fellowships.
