Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District's Programs
The Adult Education Center is sponsored by the California Department of Education and is part of the local school district. The center runs adult school programs aimed at preparing students to become productive members of the workforce and community. Some course topics English as a second language (ESL) and citizenship.
General Educational Development (GED) and High School Diploma Classes
The adult education center offers GED preparation and high school diploma courses and serves as a testing site. Students get instruction in vocabulary, writing, comprehension, math and algebra; individuals who achieve the required credits can take the California High School Exit Exam to receive a diploma.
English as a Second Language Classes
The ESL program includes classes at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. There's also an academic transitional English course that focuses on improving written communication in English.
Adults who are eligible for United States citizenship learn about the country's history, government and civics. With the help of instructors, students complete and submit their citizenship application and prepare to pass the review exam.
Santa Monica College's Programs
The Continuing and Community Education Program at Santa Monica College offers non-credit, short-term programs for adult students. Several professional certificate programs and courses and business skills courses are offered, in addition to personal interest and wellness courses.
Notary Public Seminar Course
This course trains adult students to become notary publics and provides the knowledge necessary to pass the state notary public exam. Topics include identifying document signers, avoiding lawsuits and filling out certificates.
Real Estate Courses
Students may complete a real estate principles course to prepare for the California Department of Real Estate Licensing Exam. A real estate practice course and a real estate finance course are also offered.
Computer and Internet Classes
Options for adult computer courses include a beginning skills course that teaches students how to use a personal computer and courses about general business applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Training in advanced applications, including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, are also available.

Antioch University - Los Angeles offers several certificate, bachelor's and master's degree programs that are well suited for adult learners. Most programs require hands-on learning experiences to best prepare students for future careers.
Certificate in Web Development
This certificate program consists of 36 units and can be completed in 6 months. Courses are 12 weeks long and cover topics in database management systems, debugging web applications and more. Students also complete projects to gain hands-on experience.
Bachelor's Degree Programs
Antioch's bachelor's degree programs allow adult learners to apply life experiences toward program completion. In addition to degrees in business leadership, media and urban communities, the school offers liberal studies degrees in several areas of concentration, including addiction studies, business and social entrepreneurship, creative writing and psychology.
Master's Degree Programs
Antioch University - Los Angeles offers a wide range of continuing education master's degree programs in such areas as communication studies, environmental studies, business and psychology. It also offers graduate degree and credentialing programs in education. Students can pursue a Master of Arts program to earn initial teaching credentials or focus on the study of education, leadership and change.
