Since licensing and certification for tax assessors differs between states, there is no uniform training requirement, although many tax assessors possess bachelor's degrees. Tax assessor training courses may be offered through government offices as continued education coursework. Tax Administration

In this tax assessor class, students learn about local government officials and tax professionals. Students will analyze practical measures for determining home and property values and systems for tracking these values. Instructors will also cover multiple approaches to determining value, the appeals process, abatements, equalization, and other valuation methodologies.

Appraisal Skills

Students gain practice performing property measurements and reviewing deeds and other paperwork for determining property values. Major concepts covered may include property conveyance types, square footage formulas, and legal descriptions of properties.

Exemptions

In this course, students will learn the legal definition and the regulations of tax exemptions. Instructors will provide examples of legal cases that have created precedents for these types of exemptions. Some examples that may be mentioned include Purely Public Charities and the Service Members' Civil Relief Act.
