Essential Information

Texas has more than 60 schools that offer Master of Business Administration programs. Depending on the school, these programs may be offered in full- and part-time formats; some programs are available completely online. MBA programs can take almost two years to complete.

Many MBA programs allow students to choose an area of concentration, such as marketing, finance, accounting or information technology. There are also specialized MBA programs for working professionals and executives. In addition, students can often pursue a second degree in combination with an MBA, such as a Juris Doctor (JD) or a Doctor of Medicine (MD). Basic requirements for admission include a bachelor's degree, graduate school admissions test scores, reference letters and a resume. Texas A & M University - College Station

This university in College Station offers a full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) program that requires 49 credit hours. Courses cover financial accounting, operations management, finance, marketing management and strategic management. Students may complete the program in 16 months or extend their studies with an added certificate program in international business, entrepreneurship, business management, supply chain management or advanced international affairs. The school also allows students to choose a specialization in finance, e-commerce, consulting and strategic management, marketing, human resource management, real estate or information technology and operations. Students can even create customized specializations. A&M also offers a professional MBA program and an executive MBA program.

Texas State University - San Marcos

Texas State University - San Marcos, located in San Marcos, gives students a total of 6 options for a Master of Business Administration program. Students may select a general MBA option or an MBA with an emphasis in health administration, engineering and technology, computer information systems, international business or human resource management. The general MBA program requires students to complete 42 credit hours in courses like managerial finance, marketing management, economics, organizational behavior and strategic management. The MBA programs with an emphasis all require 45 credit hours.

Texas Tech University

The Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University in Lubbock has a variety of options for students pursuing a Master of Business Administration. The STEM MBA is a 42-credit program and takes one year to complete. The MBA for working professionals, a two-year program, requires the same number of credits as the STEM MBA. This school offers a variety of dual-degree options, and students can combine their MBA studies with Juris Doctor, Doctor of Medicine, Master of Architecture or Doctor of Pharmacy degree programs, among others.

The University of Texas at Arlington

The University of Texas at Arlington offers MBA programs through the school's College of Business. The school offers a flexible format MBA and a STEM MBA at the main campus. The flexible MBA, which can be either a part-time or full-time program, requires students to complete 45 credit hours of coursework and may require additional deficiency courses. Students may select a concentration in accounting, finance, economics, management, information systems, operations management, real estate, marketing or business analytics. A cohort MBA program and an executive MBA program are offered at the school's location in Fort Worth.

The University of Texas at Austin

The University of Texas at Austin offers MBA programs to meet the scheduling requirements of students. The full-time MBA program may be completed in two years, while students can finish the evening MBA program in two and a half years. Students in the full-time program have concentration options in accounting, finance and marketing, among others. The school also offers a large number of dual-degree options for MBA students.

The University of Texas at El Paso

The College of Business Administration at the University of Texas at El Paso has MBA programs for full-time students, working professionals and executives. The full-time program requires students to attend classes during the day and can be completed in 22 months. The school also offers an accelerated program for working students who can attend classes twice a week. The executive MBA program is designed for students who have at least eight years of industry experience and features classes twice per month.

The University of Texas at San Antonio

The University of Texas at San Antonio has an MBA program that requires students to complete 36 credit hours of coursework. The school offers flexible scheduling, which allows students to attend classes on a full- or part-time basis. Core courses cover managerial economics, ethics, marketing management and financial management. Students may select an area of concentration, such as finance, business economics, information assurance, business of health, information systems, management science, management of technology, project management, marketing management, tourism destination development or real estate finance.

The University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley

The University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley, with which the University of Texas - Pan American merged, is based in Edinburg and has an MBA program that allows students to attend classes online or on campus. The on-campus program requires students to complete a minimum of 36 credit hours to earn the degree. Students in the online program may be required to complete 48 hours of courses, but can waive up to 12 credit hours of coursework with approval from the MBA director. Students may also have the opportunity to participate in a study abroad experience that counts for credit.

University of Houston

Found in Houston, the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston offers full-time, professional and executive MBA program options to meet the needs of students. The full-time day program requires students to complete 30 credit hours of core courses plus an additional 18 hours of elective coursework. Courses in the program include financial accounting, production and operations management, managerial finance, organizational behavior and management, information systems and managerial analysis.

University of North Texas

The MBA program at the University of North Texas in Denton requires students to complete 36 credit hours of coursework, which include 18 credit hours of core courses and 18 credit hours of concentration courses. The school may also require students to complete an additional 18 credit hours of foundational courses, depending on their undergraduate backgrounds. Students may select focus areas in logistics and supply chain management, information technology, business studies, marketing, organizational behavior or health services management, among others. The school also features three dual program options for students who would like additional training to complement their business degree.
