Best Engineering Schools Information

Students interested in a career in engineering can pursue an associate's in engineering, but most choose to pursue a bachelor's degree or higher. Two of the top 100 engineering schools in the U.S. are Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge and the University of California - Berkeley. In 2019, U.S. News & World Report ranked both schools among the top three schools in the country for their undergraduate and graduate engineering programs. They offer engineering programs accredited by ABET, Inc., formerly known as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Multiple areas of engineering specialization are offered at these schools, such as programs in network engineering or environmental engineering. Students can also take advantage of learning facilities like engineering labs, research centers, and libraries.

Top Colleges With Engineering Majors

MIT in Cambridge

As of 2019, Massachusetts Institute of Technology's undergraduate and graduate engineering programs were rated the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. This private research college offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Doctor of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy programs in engineering.

The engineering school's departments include electrical engineering and computer science, materials science and engineering, civil and environmental engineering, nuclear science and engineering, chemical engineering, biological engineering, and mechanical engineering. Students can join one of the several on-campus clubs, including the Student Engineering Association, or take part in undergraduate and graduate research opportunities in one of the nearly 20 research centers and laboratories.

UC - Berkeley

The University of California - Berkeley is listed as the #3 top school for its undergraduate and graduate engineering programs in 2019.

The engineering school at Berkeley is home to Kresge Engineering Library, which catalogs thousands of engineering documents and industry journals. Additionally, there are over 30 engineering-related research centers, as well as seven educational departments, including industrial engineering and operations research, nuclear engineering, and ocean engineering. At this highly-ranked U.S. university, engineering students can earn a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or Ph.D. in Engineering, as well as a Master of Engineering or Doctor of Engineering; dual undergraduate degrees are also available.
