San Diego City College

San Diego City College (SDCity) is a large, 2-year public school. SDCity offers trade classes in air conditioning, refrigeration and electricity.

Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Environmental Control Technology Program

This program offers training in refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and environmental control technologies, including solar and wind systems. A wide variety of certificate programs are available. Students completing certificates can also earn an Associate of Science in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Environmental Control Technology after completing general education and graduation requirements. Available certificate areas include the following:

Palomar College

Palomar College is a 2-year public school located in San Marcos. Palomar's apprenticeship programs prepare students for a variety of trades. The school also offers a welding technology program.

Apprenticeship Programs

Apprenticeship programs are offered in such trades as acoustical installer, carpentry, drywall and lather, plasterer, inside wireman, sheet metal and sound technician, among others. These 3- to 5-year programs combine full-time hands-on job experience with classroom instruction. Students receive certificates of achievement upon completion, unless they complete the required general education courses and electives to earn an associate's degree.

Welding Technology Program

Palomar students have the option of earning a 15-credit Certificate of Proficiency in entry-level gas metal arc/flux cored arc welding, entry-level gas tungsten arc welding or entry-level shielded metal arc welding. An Associate in Science or Certificate of Achievement in welding technology is available for students who want to learn basic welding processes and qualify for the industrial certification test.
