Dartmouth College is a private institution in Hanover, a rural region of western New Hampshire. Founded in 1769, the school is a member of the Ivy League. Dartmouth is ranked #11 overall in the 2008 America's Best Colleges report from U.S. News & World Report and features elite academic programs in a broad range of disciplines. The smallest of the Ivy League schools, Dartmouth is also known for its focus on providing students with intensive personalized instruction. The college's remarkable 8:1 student-faculty ratio is one of the best in the nation.
