    • Some University of California system schools are easier to get into than others.
    • UCLA and University of California, Berkeley are almost as hard to get accepted by as Harvard or Stanford.
    • At the other end of the spectrum, is it easier to get into the University of California, Riverside and Merced where 76 percent of applicants were accepted by these institutions for the class of 2006.
    • The average SAT score at the University of California, Riverside was 1674, and the average SAT score at the University of California, Merced was 1668.

    • Teacher recommendations are not accepted for admissions applications to the University of California system schools.
  3. California State University System
    • In general, it is easier to get accepted into a California State University school than a University of California system school, such as California State University, Long Beach or California State University, Northridge.
    • One exception is the California State University, San Luis Obispo, which is very selective when admitting students.
