Virginia Learning Institute: School Information
Virginia Learning Institute is affiliated with the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI) and focuses on personal training and fitness preparation. Three Virginia campuses are located in Vienna, Reston and Fairfax. Two additional campuses are found in the metro D.C. area and Rockville, MD.
NPTI offers a 6-month, 600-hour vocational program consisting of both classroom instruction and hands-on training. This program prepares graduates to work as fitness professionals. Students attend class during the day, evening and on the weekends. Students also have the option of choosing a weekends-only curriculum that can be completed in one year.
In order to be admitted into NPTI's personal training program, students must hold a high school diploma or GED, be recognized as legal adults and hold U.S. citizenship or a green card. They'll also need to pay a registration fee and provide documentation from a physician that they have the proper health to participate in the program.
NPTI's personal trainer program teaches students via classroom instruction and hands-on training in a gym. The hands-on segment is supervised by an industry professional. Students also receive personal training experience in a real-time, simulated environment. NPTI's program offers courses in areas such as:
- Strength training
- Body building
- Anatomy and physiology
- Business management
Certification and Career Placement
Graduates of the program earn a diploma and qualify to take the Advanced Certified Personal Trainer (A-CPT) exam. This exam is an industry standard accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Individuals also can receive certifications in CPR, first aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) by the end of the program. Graduates go on to work in settings such as spas, resorts, health clubs, fitness centers and private practices. Job placement services are available to those students who may want or need them.
