Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis

The department of Computer Information and Graphics Technology at Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis offers two computer graphics technology bachelor's degree programs. The Computing Accreditation Committee (CAC) accredits these programs, and they also meet ABET, Inc.'s quality standards.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Graphics Technology - Technical Animation and Spatial Graphics

This degree program can provide students with many of the necessary skills to design and create visual animation and effects for multimedia, film and video. In keeping with IUPUI's educational philosophy, students also take courses in the humanities or social sciences, current issues, psychology, leadership and business, as well as serving a number of internships. Computer graphics-related courses cover design, composition, audio and visual effects, geometric modeling, illustration, raster and vector imaging, motion, storyboarding and digital video.

Butler University

Butler University's Jordan College of the Arts provides the school's arts degree programs based on a well-rounded philosophy of community, creativity and artistic design. Through hands-on classes, students can learn to use the latest software and technology to create rich media projects for distribution via the Internet, traditional media broadcast, independent media and corporate settings.

Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media Production

While the digital media production degree program at Butler University emphasizes the complete production process, students have opportunities to select electives that focus on a variety of visual arts and effects courses. The required coursework for the digital media production degree program includes a variety of production courses, including writing, design and production and digital media project design and management. Students may also choose coursework in multimedia design and production, digital project design and advanced editing, as well as complete an internship.

Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design

Through this degree program, aspiring visual effects artists can obtain a solid foundation in the traditional arts, including drawing, sculpture and installation. They are also required to complete an internship. In addition to the core art curriculum, students also select from a variety of electives, including time and motion, postmodernism and independent study.

Indiana University - Bloomington

The School of Art, Architecture and Design offers graduate degree programs in the digital and graphic arts. Students can have access to Student Technology Centers and a DART Lab.

Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art with a Concentration in Digital Art

Graduate students in this program are required to take courses in 3-D modeling, and digital imaging. In this 3-year program, students are encouraged to immerse themselves in virtual environments, multimedia and other electronic media, as well as to explore the boundaries of their own creativity.

Other Schools

Ivy Tech Community College has over 40 campuses throughout the state of Indiana, including its main campus in Indianapolis, which offers visual communications degree programs. Several of the other campuses located within 50 miles of Indiana also provide visual arts courses. Anderson University, a 4-year, private not-for-profit school located roughly 46 miles from Indianapolis, offers a visual communication design program that focuses on the visual communication aspect of graphic design.
