Gardena Vocational Nursing Schools
Aspiring vocational nurses have several program options to choose from in the Gardena area. Long Beach City College
Long Beach City College (LBCC) is a public school with two campus locations and is one of the largest community colleges in the state. The college has a number of scholarships and other financial assistance available. LBCC offers various educational options, including certificate and associate degree programs, as well as vocational programs, distance learning and general education courses.
Licensed Vocational Nursing Program
LBCC offers this program for students to receive the training necessary to work in clinics, home health situations, nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities and hospitals. Courses include common health deviations, mental health nursing, nursing care for children and nursing applications of pharmacology. In addition to qualifying students to take the NCLEX-PN, this 1-year program can prepare them for the associate degree nursing (ADN) program to become an RN.
American Career College
American Career College is an adult learning institution with a location in Lynwood. The school's vocational nurse program is offered at the Lynwood campus.
Vocational Nursing Diploma Program
The 4-course vocational nursing diploma program takes approximately 13-20 weeks to complete. Students explore human anatomy and physiology, patient care, and pharmacology. Several nursing-specific topics are included, such as mental health nursing, medical surgical nursing, obstetrical nursing and pediatric nursing.
A little farther out, local students can explore program options at CES College in Burbank and Pasadena City College in Pasadena. Both are located about 25 miles from Gardena and offer vocational nursing programs.
