Minneapolis Community and Technical College

Minneapolis Community and Technical College is a public, 2-year school located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. It offers two certificates and an associate's degree in Web and interactive media. Students in these programs can participate in internships and join a student chapter of a graphic arts professional organization.

Web and Interactive Media Core Certificate

This 18-credit program introduces students to the fundamentals of Web design. They receive instruction in typography, Web layout, HTML authoring, color theory and graphics software. Students must also complete a general education course.

Web and Interactive Media Certificate

This Web design program contains the same first-semester coursework as the core certificate program. It also requires students to complete courses in scripting and Web animation. They familiarize themselves with Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop software as well. Altogether, this program requires 30 credit hours of coursework.

Associate of Applied Science in Web and Interactive Media

First-year coursework for the 66-credit associate's degree program is similar to what's required for the Web and interactive media certificate. Students also take advanced classes in Web layout, design and scripting. Additional requirements include a career planning course, a professional portfolio and 18 general education credits. Students must select coursework from the areas of communication, English, psychology and the arts.

Dunwoody College of Technology

Also located in downtown Minneapolis, Dunwoody College of Technology is a 4-year, private not-for-profit school. The college's Computer Technology Department offers 2-year programs to aspiring Web and graphic designers.

Associate of Applied Science in Web Programming and Database Development

This program combines classroom lectures with hands-on experience completing design projects. Students learn about open source software, Web programming languages, color theory, Web graphics, scripting templates and computer systems. Saint Paul College

Associate of Applied Science in Visualization Technology

Program curriculum requires students to complete core courses in computer science, digital video, Web fundamentals and HTML. They also spend time developing their professional portfolio. Students who select the Web emphasis take advanced courses in Dreamweaver and Photoshop. This 60-credit program also includes 20 credits of general education coursework.
