  • Students who want a 4-year program can find one at Colorado State University - Pueblo. Located about 44 miles to the south of downtown Colorado Springs, it is the only school in the area to offer a mass communication bachelor's degree program with several web design courses.

Pikes Peak Community College

The multimedia graphic design programs at Pikes Peak Community College teach students about the tools, techniques, and theory of web design, digital video production, and graphic design. Using current versions of commonly used software, students learn about animation, production layouts, color, and illustration. Students may pursue an associate's degree or elect to follow a very focused but comprehensive program leading to the award of a certificate.

Web Design Certificate

The certificate program in web design includes 21 credits focused on the design process. It includes design basics and an introduction to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The program also includes two courses in web design and two courses in animation, including one specific to web applications.

Associate of Applied Science in Multimedia Graphic Design

The A.A.S. program in multimedia graphic design is a 2-year program which includes 15 credits of general courses and an additional 15 credits of core graphic design courses, including an introduction to various computer software programs, web design, and computer graphics. The remainder of the program consists of electives which might include advanced courses in web techniques and animation or advanced training in computer software options, such as Adobe InDesign. Students can take a web motion design course and participate in an internship.

Pueblo Community College

Pueblo Community College offers several programs that expose students to web design from varying perspectives, such as computer information systems and visual communications. The greatest concentration of web design and development instruction exists in the digital media program.

Web Design Certificate

The web design mini-certificate at Pueblo Community College is an 18-credit program. It includes courses in web editing tools, digital photography, and web motion graphic design.

Associate of Applied Science in Digital Media

The Associate of Applied Science in Digital Media program is designed for students who intend to focus on web design and development or other uses of computer multimedia. This 2-year program includes 15 credits of general education requirements, such as economics, English, and math, and 13 core credits in business, communications, and technology. The remaining 30 or more credits are focused on digital media and include editing, authoring, web motion design, web database tools, multimedia, and e-commerce fundamentals.

Colorado State University - Pueblo

The mass communications department at Colorado State University - Pueblo includes a technical curriculum with humanities and social sciences courses. The department offers emphasis programs in electronic media, integrated communication, and journalism.

Bachelor of Arts/Science in Mass Communications

The electronic media emphasis area of the Bachelor of Arts/Science in Mass Communications program includes sub-emphasis areas. One such area, interactive media, includes web design and multimedia applications. Focusing on usability and design for interaction, the emphasis includes 18 credits of core courses related to media and communication and 9 credits specific to electronic media. A variety of electives are available, including digital publishing and video, website design, and multimedia applications.
