These certificate programs take less than 300 hours to complete. There is a degree program in welding technology offered here too. The requirements for this degree include 37 units of welding coursework in addition to general education classes.
Found in Norwalk, Cerritos College has a welding program available. Numerous certification options are here as well since the school focuses on offering Los Angeles City Welding Certifications. Full time certified welding inspectors can be found at this campus to offer assistance to students. There are 76 welding stations for students to use in the school's 12,000 square foot lab. Finally, there are weekend, day and evening course options for the welding program.
El Camino Community College District
El Camino Community College District is in the city of Torrance and welding students there have the opportunity to graduate with a certificate or an associate's degree. The certificate program is 32 to 44 units depending on which program path a student enrolls in. Students can attend daytime or evening sessions for welding classes. With a high GPA, students can graduate with honors or high honors here.
Long Beach City College
Located in Long Beach, Long Beach City College is home to welding technology preparatory programs. A welding major here can earn a certificate of achievement or an associate's degree. Certification for light gage steel and manual and semi-automatic structural steel is available at this school. This college is a Los Angeles City Department of Building and Safety licensed testing facility.
Orange Coast College
Welding technology majors can earn a certificate or associate's degree in Costa Mesa at Orange Coast College. Students that pursue the welding technology major are encouraged to take classes on technical reporting writing, advanced welding, welding inspection and testing and welding metallurgy. There are also certificate programs for basic welding, intermediate welding, advanced welding, pipe welding, GMAW and GTAW. For students interested in advanced welding, there are actually 3 certificate options that each build off the previous advanced certificate.
In addition to a welding technology associate's degree and certificate, Palomar College in San Marcos offers certificate options in gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc and flux cored arc welding. The single certificate options are usually 15 units and consist of 5 classes. The certificate of achievement and the associate's degree program have the same 33 unit core. This core includes coursework on pipe welding, welding inspection, metal layout, metal cutting, brazing and soldering and print reading for welders. The difference between these programs is that completion of a general education is necessary to graduate from the associate's degree program.
Pasadena City College
Students at Pasadena City College in Pasadena can enroll in a certificate program for construction welding or gas tungsten and gas metal arc welding. The former program option is 26 units while the latter program is 29 units. Engineering graphics and technical calculations are courses offered in each of the welding programs here.
Santa Ana College
A welding technology certificate or a welding technology associate degree can be pursued in Santa Ana at Santa Ana College.
